Is Sailor Moon becoming a gender non-conforming icon?

As others have said, this show didn't just become a show with a large LGBT fan base, but has always had one.

However, I read the situation slightly differently. It isn't just the representation, the themes, and the presentation that made the show appeal to an LGBT audience; those things helped. It's more that the LGBT audience stayed when many of the straight fans just stopped watching.

Twenty years ago, most of the people watching Sailor Satellite were kids and teenagers. Between that and even the stigma that remained about adults talking about kids cartoons in the 90's, people who watched the show for what it was. Even fans who complained about the dub being worse than the original version didn't examine the show for themes of sexual representation (notice how a lot of certain old dub-bashing sites were flat out complaints and not criticism and argument -- that's because the fanbase itself was immature at the time).

Most of the show's antique fans moved on when it stopped airing. Thus, the people like us, who stuck around had a stronger personal a

Is Chris gay?

This topic has been debated to death, and there&#;s always people who claim a character must be straight until stated otherwise by the creators (which is bull$hit), but the fact that Chris&#;s sexuality comes up so often in fan discussions shows me that I&#;m not the only one who gets this impression from him.

Let&#;s stare at some of the hints:
1) He shows no interest at all in female characters. I don&#;t concern what people utter about him and Jill, those two have never done anything onscreen that I haven&#;t done with close friends without being in love with or sexually attracted to them.
2) His strongest feelings are directed towards male characters in the series. He&#;s absolutely obsessed with Wesker, just like Wesker is obsessed with him, they both make quite ambiguous statements about each other every once in a while ("It seems prefer our fates are forever intertwined." - "Suck on this, Wesker!"), and I won&#;t believe anyone who claims that Capcom didn&#;t perform that on purpose to fuel some of their fans&#; yaoi fantasies. Then there&#;s P

Did the Sailor Suit look Gay before the Village People?

    Sage_Rat1

It seems that some Navy ship is currently parked in the Port of Seattle as there’s strapping juvenile lads in sailor suits wandering about all over.

Looking at them, however, I can’t help but sense that they look anything short of dippy and at worst flaming–though the men themselves aren’t pinging my gaydar.

Would you guys say that this is inherent due to the cut and color of the outfit? Or that it’s simply a matter of having seen too many references to sailor outfits as a sexualized symbol?

They certainly looked that way when drawn by Tom of Finland (who likely influenced the Village People).
